NDDC Revival of Elele Alimini Rice Mill in Rivers State Aims at Boosting Food Security and Employment Opportunities

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced plans to revive its rice mill located in Elele Alimini, within the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. The initiative is part of the commission’s broader strategy to enhance food security in the region.

Victor Antai, the NDDC Executive Director of Projects, expressed concern over the suspension of production at the 180 tonnes/day rice mill during a recent inspection visit. Antai conveyed his disappointment, stating that the factory’s halt in operations was disheartening.

“I want to thank the NDDC for building the rice mill. It is a gigantic project, the biggest in the Niger Delta Region,” Antai stated. He emphasized the need to investigate the reasons behind the production stoppage and explore ways to resume full-scale operations, anticipating job creation for the local youth.

Antai reassured stakeholders that most equipment at the facility remained intact and functional. The NDDC executive expressed optimism in collaborating with the Elephant Group to determine the best approach for bringing the rice mill back into operation promptly.

In response to concerns raised by Elephant Group’s technical staff, Uchechi Emejuru, about the facility’s power supply, Antai highlighted plans to connect the rice mill to a dedicated power line from a power injection station. This measure aims to ensure a consistent power supply, ultimately reducing production costs.
