The appointment of the nation’s service chiefs and Chief of Defence Staff by President Bola Tinubu was officially confirmed by the Senate on Thursday.

The confirmation took place after the service chiefs underwent a screening process before the lawmakers in the Senate Chamber. The screening was conducted behind closed doors, during which the security chiefs provided details of their career progression and expressed their commitment to meeting the nation’s expectations of ensuring security and defending the country’s territorial integrity.

In another development, the House of Representatives has made revisions to the 2022 supplementary appropriation act to accommodate President Bola Tinubu’s request for a 500 billion naira palliative fund. The House approved the allocation of this amount from the existing budget to assist Nigerians in coping with the removal of petrol subsidies.

This adjustment was swiftly implemented, with the 2nd and 3rd readings passing only a day after the president’s request. Lawmakers cited the urgent need to mitigate the impacts of the subsidy removal as the reason for expediting the process.

Additionally, the legislators emphasized the importance of President Tinubu utilizing the funds conscientiously.
