Presidential election petition: Tribunal postpones hearing of Atiku, APM petitions against Tinubu’s victory

 

The presidential election petitions tribunal has postponed the hearing for the cases filed by Atiku Abubakar and the Allied Peoples Movement.

On Monday, the presiding judge, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammni, postponed the hearing on the tribunal panel members’ petitions until Tuesday.

Meanwhile, The Action Alliance (AA) has withdrawn their petition objecting to All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate winning the presidential election on February 25.

On Monday, the party announced its withdrawal from the ’s pre-hearing meeting.

Oba Maduabuchi, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is in charge of the party’s legal defence team.

 

Prior to the withdrawal announcement, another lawyer identified himself as the AA’s representative.

 

He stated that the party wishes to have the petition dismissed because it did not consent to the action.

However, Maduabuchi insisted on filing the petition on behalf of the first and second petitioners.

Presidential election petition adjourns to May 10

The has rescheduled its hearing for Wednesday, May 10, to hear cases challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

 

This was revealed in a tweet on Monday by Kenneth Okonkwo, a Labour Party, LP spokesperson.

“After a brief pre-hearing trial, the case was adjourned to Wednesday, May 10th, 2023 at 2pm prompt,” Okonkwo wrote.

On Monday, the presidential convened in Abuja.

 

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, are challenging Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.
