Jury Finds Trump Liable for Sexual Abuse and Defamation awards $5million against him
On Tuesday, a jury in Manhattan found former President Donald J. Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Jean Carroll, awarding her $5 million in damages.
Over the years, more than a dozen women have accused Mr. Trump of sexual misconduct, but this is the only allegation that has been proven by a jury.

In the civil case, a federal jury of six men and three women determined that Ms. Carroll, 79, a former magazine writer, had sufficiently proven that Mr. Trump sexually abused her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room nearly 30 years ago. However, the jury did not find that he raped her, as she had long claimed.
The jury also found that Mr. Trump, who is running for re-election, defamed Ms. Carroll in October when he called her case “a complete hoax” and “a Hoax and a lie” on his Truth Social platform. His attorney stated that he planned to appeal.
Mr. Trump’s attorneys did not call any witnesses, and he did not attend the trial to hear Ms Carroll, who had sued him last year, describe the attack she claimed ended her romantic life forever.

Ms. Carroll nodded as a court clerk read the verdict aloud on Tuesday, her nods becoming more pronounced as the clerk stated that Mr. Trump was liable for defamation. She exited the courthouse while holding hands with her attorney, Roberta A. Kaplan, beaming from ear to ear. A woman shouted to Ms. Carroll, “You are so beautiful and courageous!” The response from Ms. Carroll was “Thank you, thank you so much.”
In a later statement, she said, “I sued Donald Trump to clear my name and reclaim my life.” Currently, the world is finally aware of the truth. This victory is not just mine; it belongs to every woman who has been misunderstood and suffered as a result.
