Alaafin: Selection Process Suffers Fresh Setback as 9 Royal Families Protest
The ongoing selection process for the new Alaafin of Oyo has taken a new turn after another setback.
This is due to a renewed call for inclusion by nine royal families, who claimed to be entitled to the stool as well.
The 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Atanda Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, who reigned for 52 years before joining his ancestors at the age of 83, died, leaving the Alaafin of Oyo stool vacant.

The ancient town has been without a monarch since the death of the traditional ruler.
According to information made available to Ejesgist Media Limited, 119 candidates were shortlisted, but only 57 were interviewed.
All applications were submitted to the Bashorun of Oyo by Baba Iyaji, the head of princes in Oyo.
The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy, in collaboration with Atiba Local Government, then sent a letter instructing the Baba Iyaji to only attend to the Agunloye ruling house.
However, it appears that the process is facing a major setback, as nine royal families in the town have stated that they have been sidelined.
They mentioned that a court case was filed challenging the selection process.
The families then urged the State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, not to approve the new monarch’s appointment until the ongoing court case was resolved.
Adeitan family, Olanite family, Tella Agbojulogun family, Tella Okitipapa family, Adediran Ese Apata family, Adesokan Baba Idode family, Adesiyan family, Abidekun family, and Adelabu Baba Ibadan family are the nine royal families.
