President Buhari Appoints AIG Garba Baba Umar As Adviser On Security

 

Garba Baba Umar, a retiring assistant inspector general of police, has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to the position of senior security adviser on counterterrorism and international police cooperation in the ministry of police affairs.

Special Media Senior Umar’s appointment will help Nigeria maintain the significant position and clear the way for him to complete his nationally advantageous tenure as an Executive Member of the International Police Organisation (INTERPOL), according to the President’s aide Garba Shehu, who made the announcement of the appointment.

AIG Kamal Subair (Rtd), a former executive member, was kept on by the Federal Government of Nigeria after retiring in 2018. Buhari reportedly took note of this precedent.

 

AIG Umar’s assistance to Nigeria in numerous ways during his time as a member of the Executive Committee was also noted by the president, who expressed the hope that in the remaining year he would do even more to help the nation secure tools for crime, border management, and counterterrorism as well as to help place more Nigerians in key positions at INTERPOL.

November 2024 marks the end of Umar’s employment with INTERPOL; he begins serving as Senior Security Adviser on May 16, 2023.
