Don’t Judge Me By My Performance In Buhari’s Cabinet – Akpabio
Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of the Niger Delta, has asked Nigerians not to judge him based on his record as a cabinet member under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Akpabio stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja, over the weekend.

The senator-elect, who is vying for the presidency of Nigeria’s senate, resigned in 2022 to vie for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination.
He resigned in favour of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who won the nomination and ultimately won the 2023 presidential election.
“I am aware that I have not changed at all. God has afforded me the opportunity to be a transformative force wherever I go. In an interview, Akpabio was quoted as saying, “I do not want to be judged by a ministerial appointment for the Niger Delta, which is a problematic region.”

“However, I would like to be evaluated based on my 36 years of experience as a lawyer, six years as a commissioner, and eight years as a governor.
He assured Nigerians that if elected Senate President, he would continue the January-December budget cycle established by the 9th National Assembly.
According to him, the January-December budget cycle was one of the most significant achievements of the outgoing Assembly.
Akpabio stated, “If given the opportunity to lead the 10th Assembly by my colleagues, one of the programmes I would like to maintain is the January to December budget cycle.”
“I commend the 9th National Assembly for the introduction of this because it allows for proper planning, enables the government to begin on a positive note, and helps to attract foreign direct investment to the country.
“Therefore, I believe that will be upheld by the tenth Senate, regardless of whether I am Senate President or not. I believe that by collaborating with my coworkers, we will be able to sustain it, as it is a collective concept. Everyone is significant.”
Akpabio was initially elected to the Nigerian Senate in 2015 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (APC), where he became the Minority Leader, but later defected to the ruling party.
