Delta threatens to shut schools associated with cultism

On Thursday in Asaba, Delta threatened to close any school where students engage in cultism.

Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Information, issued the threat in response to a viral video of secondary school students allegedly engaging in “Snake Bite” cult activities.

He told reporters that the government had increased its oversight of schools and that any student found to be responsible would be punished accordingly.

Aniagwu stated that the government would also close any school where cult activities were discovered, and that the Ministry of Education would increase its oversight role to stop the trend.

He blamed parents, teachers, religious leaders, and various other parties for their neglect and abdication of responsibilities and duties towards their children and wards.

“What we are experiencing is a result of the failures of previous generations’ parents, so parents of today must avoid such pitfalls.

Aniagwu emphasised, “Beyond the fact that we have asked the supervisory ministry to increase supervision, the authority in any school where cultism is discovered will be held accountable.”
