However, upon arrival, the military personnel found themselves surrounded by armed youths from the communities who launched a deadly assault.

Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, confirmed the harrowing details, revealing that the troops, including a reinforcement team led by the commanding officer, were mercilessly attacked. The casualties included the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers, marking a significant loss for the military and the nation as a whole.
