In the wake of an unfortunate incident that has sent shockwaves through Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairman for Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward, Smith Chiedoziem Anyanwu, met a tragic end at the hands of unidentified gunmen.
The chilling episode unfolded last Thursday, as the assailants, numbering two and riding a motorbike, confronted Anyanwu in the presence of his wife.

Lancelot Obiaku, the Party’s Director of New Media, confirmed the distressing news to journalists in Owerri on Friday.
While acknowledging the incident, Obiaku refrained from delving into further details surrounding the chairman’s murder.
Eyewitnesses revealed a heart-wrenching account of the attack, describing how the gunmen, after inquiring about Anyanwu’s whereabouts, unleashed a barrage of gunfire upon identifying him.
The assailants callously departed only after ensuring Anyanwu had breathed his last.
The grim circumstances surrounding the assassination have deeply shaken both the PDP family and the local community, coming on the heels of the Party’s setback in the November 11, 2023, Governorship election in the State.
Adding a layer of complexity, an unnamed Party woman had purportedly issued threats against the late chairman following the recent governorship election.
