The news of his resignation comes amidst ongoing challenges faced by the party following the controversial outcome of the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, which has been fiercely contested by opposition parties and their candidates, notably Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Pressure had been mounting on Adamu and the party’s national secretary, Iyiola Omisore, to step down from their positions. Credible sources within the party and the Presidency, speaking on the condition of anonymity, have confirmed to Newsonline Nigeria that Adamu submitted his resignation under the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It is worth noting that the party had previously postponed the NWC, Caucus, and NEC meetings, which were originally slated for the previous week, due to internal disagreements and intra-party politics. According to reliable sources, both the NWC and President Tinubu had not established an agenda for the meetings, leading to their postponement, allegedly due to Adamu’s actions as the national chairman.

Moreover, it has been reported that all members of the NWC are united in calling for the mandatory resignations of both the National Chairman and the Secretary, Omisore. The NWC members are also allegedly dissatisfied with the lack of transparency in the party’s 2022 account audit, claiming that it was obtained and submitted without their knowledge or review.

The resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the APC National Chairman marks a significant development within the ruling party, further highlighting the internal challenges it faces and the need for transparent and accountable leadership. The coming days will reveal the party’s next steps as it navigates these circumstances and seeks to restore stability and unity within its ranks.
