Naira-Dollar Exchange Rate Hits Record High of N860/$1 on Black Market amid Increased Demand.

Bureau De Change (BDC) operators are reporting a surge in the exchange rate between the naira and dollar, with quotes as high as N860/$1 on the black market. The depreciation is being attributed to a significant rise in demand, leading to what some are calling a “demand onslaught” on the dollar.

Even the exchange rate for “inflow,” representing forex sold via bank transfers, is quoting higher than N860/$1. Additionally, on the peer-to-peer marketplace Binance, the naira-dollar exchange rate has risen to N850/$1.

Crypto traders using stable coins as a medium of exchange are also experiencing a decline, with some quotes reaching as high as N852/$1.

The market’s uncertainty is evident as BDC operators point out that the rates may be speculative, as supply is limited. Traders are finding it challenging to confirm whether trades are being executed at the quoted rates, leading to a state of confusion in the market.
