6 Dead, 5 Missing in Seplat’s Newly Acquired Majestic Rig collapse in Delta.
Seplat Energy Plc has been hit by a devastating tragedy as six workers, including a foreign national, reportedly lost their lives in an accident involving the newly acquired Majestic rig. The incident occurred at Ogboren near Ovhor Oilfield in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
The Majestic rig, operated by the SEPLAT/NNPCL Joint Venture, was in transit to its drilling location when the accident occurred. Out of the approximately 96 crew members onboard during the incident, six bodies, including that of a British worker, have been recovered.

Seplat Energy’s management has sprung into action, activating search and rescue efforts to locate and recover any missing crew members. Although a majority of the rescued workers are reportedly safe and receiving medical attention, six employees have tragically lost their lives. Additionally, about six other workers are still unaccounted for as of the latest update.

In a press statement, Seplat Energy Plc’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Roger Brown, expressed the company’s regret over the incident. He confirmed that 92 out of the 96 crew members are safe, one fatality has been confirmed, and three other personnel are still missing.

Brown conveyed the company’s condolences to the family of the deceased crew member and expressed concern for the well-being of the three missing workers. Seplat Energy’s emergency response and rescue efforts are actively underway in collaboration with the rig owner and authorities on-site.
Safety remains the primary concern for the affected personnel and their families. The company assured that a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the accident will be conducted.
