A total of 43,631 power consumers were metered by electricity distribution companies in December 2023, bringing the total metered electricity customers to 5,842,726 while unmetered are 7,319,846.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, , disclosed this in a report through its official X account on Wednesday.

It further stated that the metering rate stood at 44.39 per cent in the period under review.

Regarding the metering rate among the electricity distribution companies, Ikeja DisCo has the highest at 72.52 per cent (2,562 metered customers in December), followed by Abuja DisCo, which is 60.55 per cent (6,620).

According to the report, the total number of registered customers in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry rose to 13,162,572 in December 2023 from 13,112,134 in November.

The report showed that Ibadan DisCo had the highest number of customers, 2,401,864, registered on its network, followed by Abuja DisCo, with 1,414,356 registered customers.

The sheet also stated that the commission received 91,576 complaints during the period, with metering topping the most complaints with 57,119 cases, followed by billing with 17,734 cases.

Other complaints include interruption with 6,510 cases; voltage, 1,244; disconnection, 1,182; load shedding, 422; delay, 169; and other complaints, 17,194.
