Peter Obi, Pat Utomi Pays Condolence Visit to Akeredolu’s Family

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, and renowned Nigerian economist Pat Utomi, in a poignant display of solidarity and respect, paid a condolence visit to the grieving family of the late Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in Ibadan.

Sharing moments from the visit on his Twitter handle, Peter Obi expressed the somber purpose of their journey, stating,

“Today, together with my very dear elder brother, Prof Pat Utomi, I arrived in Ibadan, Oyo State, to commiserate with the bereaved wife of Late Gov Rotimi Akeredolu, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, and the entire Akeredolu Family, as we all mourn the death of Gov Akeredolu.”

Reflecting on Akeredolu’s impactful career, Peter Obi acknowledged his steadfast commitment to the rule of law and the security of Nigerian citizens during his tenure as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and subsequently as a Governor. He emphasized Akeredolu’s belief in a restructured and productive Nigeria.

Governor Akeredolu’s passing on Wednesday, December 27, following a prolonged battle with prostate cancer, has left a void in Nigerian politics. Despite the sorrow, Obi invoked a prayer for eternal rest for the departed leader and strength for his wife, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the entire Akeredolu family, and all who mourn him.
