Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, declared that his decision to vie for the governorship position in 2024 was a result of divine guidance. However, he raised concerns about a conflicting agenda within the ruling party, warning that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could only secure victory in the upcoming election if he is the chosen candidate.
During an interview on a private broadcast television station in Lagos, Shaibu shared insights into the spiritual and strategic aspects of his decision. He explained that, before publicly announcing his gubernatorial ambition, he engaged in extensive consultations with various individuals and groups both within and outside Edo State.

Additionally, he emphasized seeking divine guidance through prayer, which reinforced his conviction to pursue the governorship.
Despite the apparent alignment of his aspirations with divine signals, Shaibu acknowledged a disconnect with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s plans for the political landscape in Edo State. He disclosed that, while the divine signals encouraged him to proceed with his governorship bid, Governor Obaseki had intentions of supporting another candidate.
Shaibu’s candid remarks conveyed a clear message about the necessity of his presence on the ballot for PDP’s success in the forthcoming election. He emphasized that the party’s chances of winning in Edo State hinge on his candidacy due to the unique qualities, content, and experience he brings to the political arena.
