The Federal Government in a significant move to boost morale and support Nigerian sports, President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the disbursement of N12 billion to settle outstanding payments for the Super Eagles and various national teams.

This announcement was made through an official statement released on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Center’s X handle.

The allocated funds are earmarked to address a backlog of payments, spanning coach salaries for the senior national team covering a duration of up to 15 months. Additionally, the disbursement will cover outstanding allowances and commitments owed to the senior national teams, including the female squads and the Under-20 national team.

“President @officialABAT has approved the payment of N12 billion outstanding backlog for Nigeria’s national teams of various sports, which includes Super Eagles and others,” the statement reads. “This payment entails the clearing of the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.”

This financial support comes at a crucial time as the Super Eagles gear up for their participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to kick off later this month.
