The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm regarding a falsified Coco Samba Herbal Mixture 100ml currently in circulation. NAFDAC disclosed that the registration number on this suspicious product is fabricated, differing from the legitimate one assigned to the genuine product.

This counterfeit product, as per NAFDAC’s findings, contains undisclosed levels of sildenafil, exceeding the recommended daily dose for the medicine at 150mg. Sildenafil, known by its brand name Viagra, is a prescription drug for treating erectile dysfunction and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH).

The revelation surfaced after German Official Medicines Control Laboratory (OMCL) officials conducted tests on the product discovered in Germany. Shockingly, the NAFDAC Registration Number “A4-9149” on the seized product conflicted with the authentic one recorded in the NAFDAC database as “A8-4418L.”

Although intercepted in Germany, NAFDAC expressed concern that the harmful product may have already infiltrated Nigeria through informal channels. Consequently, the agency urged the public to cease the sale or use of the counterfeit product and advised those in possession to submit their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

NAFDAC cautioned against using the falsified product, emphasizing the potential dangers. Individuals who have used or experienced adverse reactions after using the product are urged to seek immediate medical advice from qualified healthcare professionals.

NAFDAC stressed the importance of obtaining medicines from authorized/licensed suppliers, highlighting the need for careful scrutiny of authenticity and physical condition during product acquisition.
