DHQ Declares Simon Ekpa, 96 Others Wanted for Alleged Violent Crimes

The Defence Headquarters has escalated its efforts in combating terrorism and insurgency by declaring Simon Ekpa, a factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), along with 96 other individuals, as wanted for their alleged involvement in violent crimes across various regions of Nigeria.

According to reports, the list of wanted persons encompasses individuals linked to terrorist activities in the North East and North West regions, as well as insurgents operating in the South East and North Central areas of the country.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the release of names and photographs of the wanted individuals on Friday, March 22, underscoring the seriousness of the Defence Headquarters‘ pursuit of these alleged perpetrators.

In the North West zone, which has been severely affected by the scourge of banditry, a total of 43 individuals have been declared wanted. Among them are individuals identified as Alhaji Shingi, Malindi Yakub, Boka, Dogo Gide, and Halilu Sububu, among others.

Similarly, in the North East region, which continues to grapple with the menace of Boko Haram and Islamic State for West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, 33 individuals have been listed as wanted. Notable names on the list include Abu Zaida, Modu Sulum, Baba Data, and Ahmad.

In the South East and North Central areas, where insurgent activities have also been recorded, a total of 21 individuals have been declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters. Among them are Simon Ekpa, Chika Edoziem, and Egede.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Enyinnaya Abaribe, the lawmaker representing Abia South, has shed light on why Simon Ekpa has been reluctant to rescind the sit-at-home order in the southeast region. Abaribe alleges that Ekpa and his associates have been profiting from the order, which has evolved into a lucrative venture for them.

 

As the search for the wanted individuals intensifies, the Defence Headquarters has called on the public to provide any useful information that could aid in the apprehension of these suspects, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in combating insecurity in Nigeria.
