NYSC Speaks On Posting Corps Members to Oyo Amotekun 

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has responded to a social media report alleging that it assigned a corps member to the Amotekun Corps.

Christy Olatoye, the NYSC spokesperson in Oyo state, refuted the claim, emphasizing that Amotekun is not listed in the NYSC employers database. Olatoye clarified that the NYSC solely assigns corps members to organizations and employers registered in their database.

In Ibadan, Oyo state, the NYSC has refuted claims of deploying a corps member to the Western Nigeria Security Network, commonly known as Amotekun Corps, for a mandatory one-year youth service program.

Christy Olatoye, the Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC in Oyo state, made this assertion while addressing a social media report alleging the posting of a corps member to the Amotekun Corps.

Olatoye, as reported by Vanguard, stated that the scheme only assigns corps members to employers listed in its database, with Amotekun not being among them. This clarification was issued in a statement released on Saturday, March 23.

Additionally, according to Leadership, she emphasized that the purported posting letter for such deployment did not originate from the NYSC in Oyo state.

“The NYSC Oyo state has noted the circulating story on social media regarding a corps member being posted to Amotekun Corps. I wish to clarify that it is NYSC’s policy to assign corps members where their skills are relevant and their services can be effectively utilized.

While acknowledging the significance of the Amotekun Corps in its field, it is important to note that it is not listed among our registered employers. We exclusively post corps members to employers enlisted in our database,” Olatoye stated.
