Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State, has passed away.

 

Mr. Onu, who served as the Minister of Science and Technology in the Muhammadu Buhari administration, breathed his last in an Abuja hospital, as reported by BBC Igbo News.

Hailing from Ụbụrụ in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, the late 72-year-old politician left an indelible mark on Nigerian politics.

In a bid to further serve his country, Onu resigned from his ministerial post to vie for the presidential ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.

 

However, he faced defeat in the primaries, losing to President Bola Tinubu.
