Ahmed praised Sankore as one of Nigeria’s most exceptional journalists and a versatile data analyst. She expressed deep sorrow at his loss and emphasized that his passing is a significant loss for the nation.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

In her heartfelt tribute, Ahmed wrote, “It is with deep sorrow that I announce we have lost one of Nigeria’s finest journalists and excellent all-around human beings, Rotimi Sankore. Rotimi loved Nigeria with a passion that allowed him to be honest about her problems and what needs to be done to solve them.
She highlighted his expertise in data journalism, noting his unparalleled ability to analyze data and use it to understand events and project trajectories. Sankore dedicated his time and energy to ensuring that government officials, policymakers, and ordinary Nigerians understood the significance of data in addressing societal challenges.
Sankore’s legacy, Ahmed emphasized, lies in his insightful work and significant contributions to journalism. She extended her heartfelt condolences to his daughter and family.
Before his passing, Sankore served as the executive director at the Africa Centre for Development Journalism (ACDJ), where he provided strategic communication support to socio-political and economic organizations.
He recently assumed the role of chairman of the editorial board at Nigeria Info Radio Group.
