In a poignant moment that marked the end of a chapter, the remains of the late Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, arrived in Nigeria on Friday, nine days after his demise in Germany. The somber event was shared through a Facebook post by Mr Richard Olatunde, the former Chief Press Secretary to the late governor.

Akeredolu, who succumbed to a prolonged illness on December 27, 2023, was aged 67. The plane carrying his body touched down at approximately 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, as conveyed by Olatunde.

The reception at the airport was a poignant gathering, with Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the late governor’s wife, alongside his children and siblings, including Prof. Wole Akeredolu, his immediate younger brother, receiving the remains.

Notable political figures also paid their respects, with Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi; and Senator Demola Adeleke representing Osun State Governor, participating in the solemn moment.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, and Hon. Gboyega Adefarati from the House of Representatives, along with members of the Ondo State Executive Council, joined in receiving the late governor’s body.

The emotions were palpable as family members, followers, friends, and associates witnessed the lowering of the late Governor’s body from the plane. The remains have been placed in a morgue until the final burial arrangements are made.

While the grief-stricken atmosphere prevailed, the details of the burial arrangements were left undisclosed, with the former governor’s aide noting that the family would announce them at a later date.
