APC and CSO Criticize Adeleke’s Appointments of Nephew

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expressed disapproval of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s decision to appoint his nephew, Tunji Adeleke (Jnr), as the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, stating that it constitutes clear nepotism.

In a statement released in Osogbo on Friday and signed by the state APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the party criticized the appointment, arguing that entrusting such a crucial government body to Adeleke (Jnr), who recently graduated from Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State in 2021 and lacks work experience, was unwarranted.

The party further highlighted that appointing a young man who has never held a job before and is known for his dreadlock hairstyle to oversee the affairs of the Osun State local government service commission was concerning.

Additionally, the Centre for Public Accountability, a civil society group, also questioned the appointments of Adeleke’s family members to various public offices in the state, emphasizing that there were many qualified individuals within the state who could have been considered for these positions.

According to the Programme Officer of the group, Ayo Ologun, the governor of Osun State made controversial appointments, which include appointing himself as the Commissioner for Works, his late brother’s wife, Mrs. Folashade Adeleke, as Commissioner for Federal Matters, and his nephew, who graduated from Adeleke University in 2021 after spending 10 years in various institutions, as the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission.

The latter is considered to be one of the most crucial commissions responsible for recruitment and social welfare in the state. Ologun criticized these appointments, pointing out that there are plenty of capable individuals in Osun State who have excelled in their respective fields and could have been considered for these positions.

In response to the criticism from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the criticism as illogical.

He argued that the attacks on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s appointees were a reflection of a severely divided and damaged APC, desperate to regain relevance and acceptance among the people of Osun State.

Rasheed further asserted that the appointed commissioners and chairmen of boards are highly qualified and fully prepared to deliver good governance.
