The South-East Senate caucus has provided advice to President-elect Bola Tinubu to exercise caution regarding the serious consequences of zoning and endorsing a candidate from the South-South for the position of Senate President without considering the South-East. Such actions could potentially lead to injustice and unrest.

The advice was communicated through a communique issued by the caucus subsequent to a meeting held in Abuja.

In the press release issued by Senator Ifeanyi Uba subsequent to the meeting, it was conveyed that the legislators are urging the President-elect to exhibit sensitivity towards the current state of affairs in Nigeria and uphold the principles of equity, unity, and fairness to foster the nation’s progress.

Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu and Senator-elect Dave Umahi are among the leading contenders from the South-East region for the role of Senate President.

In the race for the speakership, Ado Doguwa from Kano State and Yusuf Gagdi from Plateau State, among other prominent APC lawmakers, have expressed their interest in the position.

Gagdi, a federal lawmaker serving his second term, has stated that in order to achieve his political ambition, he is engaging in outreach efforts with elected lawmakers from various regions of the country, as well as those from different political parties.
