The leadership of the 10th National Assembly has been zoned by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

As per the statement made by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, on Monday, the NWC has been informed of the zoning arrangement, which is outlined below: The for the South-South region is Senator from Akwa Ibom, while the for the North West region is Senator from Kano.

The individuals holding the positions of Speaker of the House of Representatives (North-West) and Deputy Speaker South East are Hon. Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna) and Hon. Ben Kalu (Abia), respectively.

The NWC’s announcement of the zoning arrangement, as per Morka, was made subsequent to a meeting held on Monday. During the meeting, reports of consultations and meetings with the President-Elect, Bola Tinubu, and other stakeholders were considered with regards to the zoning arrangement for the 10th National Assembly.

According to him, the National Working Committee (NWC) has requested additional and improved consultations with relevant stakeholders to ensure the backing of aspirants vying for leadership positions in the National Assembly and members of the party across the country.

The political party has issued a statement encouraging its leaders, members, and all citizens of Nigeria to persist in their efforts towards promoting peace and development in the country, both during and after the ongoing period of leadership transition.

The South-East Senate caucus has provided advice to President-elect Bola Tinubu to exercise caution regarding the serious consequences of zoning and endorsing a candidate from the South-South for the position of Senate President without considering the South-East. Such actions could potentially lead to injustice and unrest.

The advice was communicated through a communique issued by the caucus subsequent to a meeting held in Abuja.

In the press release issued by Senator Ifeanyi Uba subsequent to the meeting, it was conveyed that the legislators are urging the President-elect to exhibit sensitivity towards the current state of affairs in Nigeria and uphold the principles of equity, unity, and fairness to foster ’s progress.

Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu and Senator-elect Dave Umahi are among the leading contenders from the South-East region for the role of Senate President.

In the race for the speakership, Ado Doguwa from Kano State and Yusuf Gagdi from Plateau State, among other prominent APC lawmakers, have expressed their interest in the position.

Gagdi, a federal lawmaker serving his second term, has stated that in order to achieve his political ambition, he is engaging in outreach efforts with elected lawmakers from various regions of the country, as well as those from different political parties.
