APC Suspends Igalamela/Odolu LG Executives in Kogi, Gives Reasons
In Kogi State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended all ward executive officers in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.
The party accuses them of engaging in anti-party activities and receiving financial inducements to weaken the party’s position in the state.
The suspension and dissolution of the executive teams were announced in a statement released by Kogi APC State Secretary Joshua Onoja on Saturday.
The statement expresses concern regarding the violation of the party’s constitution by ward and local government executives, who are expected to uphold the party’s values.
The statement reads, “The Kogi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has received disturbing reports of gross violations of the party’s constitution by ward and local government executives, who should ordinarily be the guardians of the constitutional sanctity of our party. Allegations of anti-party activities and financial inducement to weaken the party have been confirmed, leading to extensive investigations of some party executives.”
The party leadership strongly discourages the dismissed officers from resuming their former executive positions.
The statement emphasises that “caretaker committees will be established immediately to manage the party’s affairs pending a comprehensive report from the investigative committee.” Officials from wards to the local government level in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area are directed to submit party materials in their possession to the state secretariat in Lokoja and cease operating as executives as of today, 19 May 2023.
