Former PDP Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi Joins APC Ahead of Governorship Election.
Abuja, Nigeria – Arch. Yomi Awoniyi, the former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the countdown to the November 11 governorship election in the state begins. His formal induction into the APC took place at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday and was presided over by the national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

Arch. Yomi Awoniyi, who previously served as Deputy Governor of Kogi State from 2011 to 2015 during Captain Idris Wada’s administration, expressed his reasons for joining the APC during a press address. He highlighted the current Governor Yahaya Bello’s remarkable leadership and governance, emphasizing his humility and unifying abilities as reasons for his decision.
I served as the Deputy Governor of Kogi State between 2011 and 2015. I know the state very well, and I can tell you that the current governor has done exceptionally well in leadership and good governance. His humility is unmatched, and his ability to unite the people is remarkable.

These qualities are some of the reasons I decided to join the APC and offer my support to him and the incoming administration,” said Awoniyi.
Governor Yahaya Bello welcomed Awoniyi into the APC fold, describing his decision as significant. He asserted that Awoniyi’s move reflects the satisfaction of the people with his administration’s achievements and their willingness to support his leadership for the state’s continued success.
