Lauretta Onochie, sacked chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and a former presidential media aide, has sparked controversy by calling for the arrest of Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.
After the announcement of the election results, which declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu the winner with 8,794,726 votes and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP as the runner-up with 6,984,520 votes, Peter Obi secured the third position with a total of 6,101,533 votes.
Onochie has directed her plea to both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police, urging immediate action against the former Anambra State Governor.
She posted a video of Peter Obi on social media, accusing him and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, of inciting violence and attempting to paralyze the nation through labor unions’ strikes.
Furthermore, Onochie accused Peter Obi of leading a group of what she referred to as ‘brainwashed’ followers in an attempt to forcibly change the government, allegedly for his own benefit and ambitions. She expressed concerns about the desperation of a candidate who, despite coming in third place, seeks to be declared the winner at any cost.
Ejes Gist Newspaper has, however, confirmed that the said video is over one year old and has been edited to suit their narratives
