Court of Appeal Upholds Decision, Declares Labour Party’s Fom Dalyop Chollom Winner in Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed the verdict of the earlier tribunal, effectively ousting Peter Ibrahim Gyendeng of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from his position as the representative for the Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency.
In a significant ruling, the court has affirmed Fom Dalyop Chollom of the Labour Party as the rightful occupant of the seat.

Chollom had contested Gyendeng’s victory in the February 25th polls, asserting that Gyendeng’s nomination by the PDP was invalid due to the party’s alleged lack of a valid structure in the state during his candidacy.
The tribunal, in agreement with Chollom’s petition, unanimously invalidated Gyendeng’s election, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revoke Gyendeng’s Certificate of Return and reissue it to Chollom.

Despite Gyendeng’s appeal, the Court of Appeal, considering a consolidation of appeals (Suit Nos: CA/J/EP/PL/HR/47/23 & CA/J/EP/PL/HR/23/23), upheld the tribunal’s ruling. The three appellate Justices underscored the PDP’s failure to comply with the court order and confirmed the party’s lack of a valid structure.

As a result, the court has mandated INEC to withdraw Gyendeng’s Certificate of Return and officially recognize Chollom as the legitimate winner of the Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency seat.
This development carries significant political implications and is a pivotal moment in the representation of the constituency.
