Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is critically ill and has been flown abroad for medical treatment.
Sources said the governor was flown abroad after writing to the State House of Assembly for 21 days of medical leave abroad.

The letter reads that the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has embarked on a 21-day medical leave abroad, commencing on June 7, 2023, and concluding on July 6, 2023. The announcement was made by Speaker Olamide Oladiji, who read out a letter from Governor Akeredolu during a session.

The duration of the leave was extended to accommodate the public holidays of June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir (June 28th and 29th, 2023) celebrations.
In Governor Akeredolu’s absence, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been directed to assume the responsibilities of the Governor.
Governor Akeredolu has assured his return on July 7, 2023.
