President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ambassador Desmond Akawor as the Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
The announcement, made by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on Thursday, is pending upon the approval of the Nigerian Senate.

Ambassador Desmond Akawor, the newly appointed RMAFC Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State, steps into the role following the untimely passing of the former commissioner, Hon. Asondu Wenah Temple, earlier this month.
With an extensive record of service to the nation, Ambassador Akawor has previously held key positions, including Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (Engineering & Technical Services).

President Tinubu has charged Ambassador Akawor with utilizing his wealth of experience across various levels of government.
The objective is to spearhead a comprehensive reform of processes that will enhance the efficiency and productivity of fund allocations to all three tiers of government in Nigeria.

This appointment marks a strategic move by the President to fill a crucial position in the wake of a significant loss.
Pending Senate confirmation, Ambassador Akawor is expected to bring his expertise to bear on the crucial responsibilities of the RMAFC, ensuring judicious allocation and utilization of financial resources across the nation’s governance structure.
