Breaking: Protesters pull down NASS gate, take over premises

Demonstrators have toppled the initial gate of the National Assembly complex in Abuja and managed to enter the premises.

According to The Nation, the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are at the forefront of the protest against the removal of subsidies and policies perceived as detrimental to the poor in Abuja on Wednesday.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Unity Fountain and then proceeded to the NASS Complex as early as 7am.

The protesters demanded that the security operatives at the legislative building open the gate, enabling the disgruntled workers to voice their dissatisfaction.

After the security officials’ refusal to comply, the furious demonstrators forcefully brought down the gate and proceeded to the second gate of the Assembly Complex.
