Ohanaeze Ndigbo Leadership Crisis: Njiko Igbo Forum Rejects New President-General
Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the new president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has been rejected by the Njiko Igbo Forum, an Igbo sociopolitical organisation.
Njiko Igbo Forum, which has been a worldwide affiliate of Ohanaeze Ndigbo since 1999, has openly rejected the new leader’s selection.

In a statement signed by its president, Okechukwu Obioha, the forum stated that Joe Nworgu, not Iwuanyanwu, is their preferred candidate for the position.
According to the group, Nworgu possesses the necessary experience as the former deputy secretary-general of the group.
The statement reads, “Njiko Igbo Forum rejects Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s nomination as president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.” As the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is no longer in office and Imo State is unquestionably the state that should retain the president-general, we recommend Joe Nworgu PhD (Cambridge), who was one of the candidates for that position, with the highest regard.
“We strongly recommend Joe Nworgu PhD (Cambridge) for the position of leader, as he has served with distinction as secretary-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and for several years as its deputy secretary-general.

“If Chief Dr. Iwuanyanwu wants to be called president-general, he is on his own and will not be recognised by us or other Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide affiliate organisations.”
A delegation of the Imo Elders Council, led by chairman HRM Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, presented Iwuanyanwu to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The nomination of Iwuanyanwu follows the death of the group’s former leader, George Obiozor, on January 9, 2023.
