Delta govt deports Anambra woman beggar constituting nuisance in Asaba

 

The government of Delta State deported a 32-year-old woman who hails from Anambra state for being a nuisance as a street beggar.

 

Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare in her state, empowered Ogochukwu Nwabud and warned her to stop begging in Asaba.

The Commissioner’s media aide, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, stated in a press release that the repatriated woman was empowered and given to the women’s leader in her Nnewi community.

 

“Ogochukwu Nwabude, a 32-year-old single mother, was sent back to Anambra by the government of Delta State for causing a nuisance by begging in said state.

“Obinabo, who did not spare the repatriated beggar, frowned upon the act but urged her to be an agent of change by pursuing a trade to support herself and her child.

“She (Obinabo) gave her a small token to help her launch a business of her choosing, but warned that if she is caught again, she will be prosecuted.”

The woman was quoted by Ikeanyionwu as saying, “She only committed the act for two weeks before she was captured by the Delta state government and returned to the Anambra.”

 

“She pledged not to engage in panhandling and to make effective use of the empowerment.

“She was subsequently turned over to the Uruagu Woman leader in Nnewi, who will monitor her progress and report to the ministry,” said Ikeanyionwu.
