Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, the General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministries in Rivers State, has become the center of attention due to an act of kindness that has had unintended consequences.

The pastor extended his assistance to two young men who had lost their jobs as security guards at a Chicken Republic outlet, a popular food company.

However, trouble began when a video clip surfaced online, showing the young men dancing to a popular Hip Hop song called “Dorime” while on duty. This footage sparked debates on social media, with Nigerian users expressing mixed reactions.

Undeterred by the controversy, the pastor sponsored the two young men to study in Cyprus, earning him praise from many.

Last year, the pastor shared pictures of the young men, known as the Happie Boys, on social media, proudly announcing their enrollment at a university in Cyprus with the caption, “Happie boys go to school in African style in their university at Cyprus. NA GOD…..”

However, a few days ago, the former security guards took to social media to express that they had been abandoned.

In an Instagram post, they revealed that they were only able to attend school for six months before being forced to drop out due to a lack of funds.

The Happie Boys shared their conversations with Apostle Chinyere, in which they requested financial assistance, but he responded by stating that he was broke.

This post embarrassed the pastor, who expressed his displeasure in a leaked online conversation with the guards. He revealed that the money used to sponsor them came from members’ tithes and offerings and accused them of repaying his kindness with evil.

In his anger, he cursed them, saying they would remain poor forever and never achieve anything in life. He also stated that any clothes he had bought for them would be sold by them to sustain themselves, leaving them in extreme poverty.

The audio recording of the pastor’s conversation generated mixed reactions. Some people accused the former guards of ridiculing the pastor, while others criticized Apostle Chinyere for cursing students he had once supported.

In response, the Happie Boys dismissed the scholarship program as deceptive and claimed that those criticizing them did not understand the challenges they had faced. They challenged the pastor to provide proof of other successful beneficiaries of his scholarship program.

Apostle Chinyere defended himself by stating that he could no longer fund their scholarship due to the forex crisis and the increased dollar rate. He explained that the financial burden had become too heavy for him, considering that he had over 4,000 individuals on his scholarship program.

The pastor offered affected beneficiaries, including the Happie Boys, the option to continue their studies at any university in Nigeria or Benin Republic.

He further expressed forgiveness towards the Happie Boys and announced his decision to restore their scholarship, allowing them to continue their education in either a Nigerian or Benin Republic university. He instructed the matron, whom he had employed to take care of them, to arrange their return ticket to Nigeria.
