Woman Breaks Ibadan Electric Official’s Leg Over Bill
Nosimot Alalade, a 34-year-old woman, was arraigned in court on Friday.
She was charged with assaulting an employee of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Isabo.

The defendant, who resides at 5 Amadiya Street in the Olomore neighbourhood of Abeokuta, the state capital of Ogun, is charged with three counts of assault, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and endangering the life of the complainant.
Inspector Olaide Rawlings informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 12 at approximately 1 p.m. in the Olomore neighbourhood of Abeokuta.
Rawlings stated that the defendant caused permanent injury to Silas Olaleye’s right leg by pushing him off a ladder while performing his legal duty.
She stated that the complainant, an IBEDC employee, and his team were assigned to the Olomore area for routine IBEDC metre and bill checks.
The prosecutor added that when the complainant and his team arrived at the defendant’s residence and asked for her bill, she was unable to produce it.
“During the process, the complainant’s team leader instructed him to detach the defendant’s light from the pole.

“When the complainant climbed the pole to disconnect the cable that supplied power to the defendant’s home, the defendant, in a fit of rage, pushed the ladder the complainant was climbing,” the defendant explained.
According to Rawlings, the complainant fell from the ladder and sustained an open wound to his right leg.
By pushing Olaleye while on duty, the defendant endangered the life of the complainant and acted in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace, according to the prosecutor.
According to her, these violations violate Sections 338, 344, 355 and 249 of the Criminal Code, Ogun State Laws, 2006.
However, the defendant pled not guilty to the charges.
Mrs. M.O. Osinbajo, the magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the amount of N100,000 with one surety in the same amount.
She subsequently postponed the trial until April 28.
