The Kaduna State government, under the leadership of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed strong condemnation towards the recent surge in violent attacks, communal clashes, and reprisals that have taken place between January and March this year. These incidents, which have been attributed to bandits and terrorists, have resulted in the loss of at least 214 lives.

 

According to the state government, out of the 214 individuals who lost their lives, 196 were male and 14 were female. This information was provided during the profiling of the recorded deaths.

The Commissioner has reported that the Kaduna Central Senatorial District has experienced a total of 115 deaths, with the majority of them, 108 to be exact, occurring in the local government areas of Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi, Chikun, and Kajuru. According to official reports, the first quarter of the year has seen a concerning number of fatalities in several local government areas in Nigeria. Specifically, Giwa and Birnin Gwari LGAs have each reported 32 deaths, while Chikun LGA has recorded 25 deaths, Igabi has seen 13, and Kajuru has reported six. According to the Commissioner, the first quarter of the year saw a significant rise in kidnapping and deaths in Kaduna North District. Zaria LGA alone recorded 22 deaths out of the total 38. The number of people kidnapped during this period was also alarming, with a total of 746 cases reported. The Kaduna Central Senatorial District accounted for the majority of these cases, with 492 kidnappings, making up about 66% of the total. Incidents have been reported in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi, Chikun, and Kajuru local government areas.

 

According to the official statement, a total of 492 individuals were reportedly kidnapped in different local government areas of Kaduna state. The highest number of abductions occurred in Birnin Gwari and Igabi local government areas, with 137 and 131 individuals kidnapped, respectively. In Giwa LGA, 100 persons were reportedly abducted, while 83 and 41 individuals were kidnapped in Chikun LGA and Kajuru LGA, respectively.

According to reports, a total of 221 individuals have been reported kidnapped in the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District. The Kachia Local Government Area has reportedly had the highest number of abductions, with 95 individuals taken. Kagarko has also been affected, with 63 individuals kidnapped, while Kauru LGA has recorded 46 abductions.

According to a recent statement, the Northern Senatorial District has experienced a surge in kidnappings, with a reported 33 individuals abducted. Of those, 17 were from Lere LGA. Shockingly, the total number of women and minors kidnapped in the first quarter of the year in the state was 254 and 42, respectively.

According to the security report, the 4th quarter of 2022 saw a total of 246 fatalities resulting from banditry and other criminal activities in the state. Additionally, 280 bandits were reported to have been killed during confrontations with security agencies.
