Trial of Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele Adjourned to January 18, 2024
The Federal Capital Territory High Court has adjourned the trial in the alleged procurement fraud case involving the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. The proceedings are now scheduled to continue on January 18, 2024.
Emefiele stands accused of utilizing his position to grant an illicit advantage to Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN staff member, by allegedly awarding a contract for the procurement of 43 vehicles valued at N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.

Following the allegations, Emefiele was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. On November 22, his bail application was presented before the court, leading to Justice Hamza Muazu granting bail to Emefiele in the sum of N300 million. The judge specified that the former CBN governor must provide two sureties in a like sum.
Notably, the sureties are required to possess certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama district in Abuja.
Emefiele to Spend Christmas in Kuje PrisonÂ
Despite the bail being granted, Emefiele is yet to fulfill the conditions, and he was brought to court and subsequently taken away by armed personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service. The case continues to unfold, with the next hearing set for January 18, 2024.
