Fatal Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Claims Four Lives and Leaves 11 Injured

A tragic incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at the Aiyetoro section, resulting in the loss of lives and injuries.

A Foton bus was involved in a single accident, claiming the lives of four individuals and leaving 11 others with various degrees of injuries.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, confirmed the incident to reporters in Abeokuta on Sunday.

The accident took place at 9:59 am, involving a total of 15 individuals, comprising three men and 12 women.

Among the victims, 11 women sustained injuries, while three men and one woman tragically lost their lives in the accident.

According to Akinbiyi, the unfortunate incident involved a commercial bus that overturned into a ditch due to a tire burst while in motion.

He stated, “Based on an eyewitness report, the bus with registration number AGL 989 YA was traveling from Ibadan towards Lagos when the driver’s side tire burst at the Ayetoro section of the expressway, causing the bus to somersault and land in a ditch.”

Akinbiyi added that the deceased individuals have been taken to the Idera morgue in Sagamu, while the injured victims received medical attention at Famobis Hospital in Mowe.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of drivers avoiding excessive speed, using quality tires, and adhering to basic traffic rules and regulations.
