Election Tribunal Sacks Labour Party House of Representatives Member. 

The Election Petition Tribunal has invalidated the election of Honourable Ngozi Okolie, a member of the Labour Party, to the 10th Federal House of Representatives. The verdict was delivered during a sitting in Asaba, Delta State.

Ejes Gist News reports that Honourable Ngozi Okolie had been declared the winner of the February 25 election for the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, the tribunal, in its judgment on Monday, ruled that Okolie was not appropriately sponsored by the Labour Party as he was not a registered member of the party as of May 28, 2022, the purported date of the primary election.

As a result of this finding, the tribunal declared Ndudi Elumelu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who was the runner-up in the February 25, 2023 National Assembly election, as the rightful winner.

Ndudi Elumelu, the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, had lodged a petition urging the tribunal to disqualify Okolie, who had been declared the winner by INEC.
