On Monday night, armed bandits attacked and killed four police officers in Zamfara State’s Bungudu Local Government Area.

 

According to a Channels TV report, the officers were setting up a checkpoint along the Bungudu-Gusau Road when they were ambushed by armed bandits who opened fire on them.

Ibrahim Bungudu, a resident of Bungudu town, said that four police officers were killed in the attack, and that the bandits also shot a person in Tagero village, which is located in the Furfuri district of Bungudu Local Government Area.

 

“The bandits ambushed the police along the Gusau-Bungudu road close to Nabature company and killed four,” Bungudu said. They also rustled many cattle in Tagero village, Furfuri district, and one person was shot in the hand.”

Another town resident, Usman Bungudu, said the bandits attacked the policemen while they were on checkpoint duty around midnight, killing four officers.

 

According to Usman Bungudu, the incident occurred around 12 a.m. when the policemen mounted a checkpoint along Gusau Road, and then “the bandits just ambushed and shot at them; they fled after killing four policemen.”

Meanwhile, during a phone call with Channels Television on Tuesday morning, the State Police spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the attack.

 

However, Abubakar was unable to confirm whether any police officers were killed in the attack and promised that more information would be provided later.
