Mr. Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, revealed that he had received information indicating that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was making preparations for a potential re-run of the 2023 presidential election.

He urged members of the party to remain vigilant. Abure made these remarks during an online meeting with the Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy, led by Professor Eddie Oparaoji, the Labour Party Diaspora Chairman in the United States.

The ruling party, according to Abure, was aware of the unfavorable circumstances it faced in the ongoing legal challenge against the presidential election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The acting National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, quoted Abure as calling on the party’s over 10 million members to be prepared to “further humiliate APC and its government in the polls if their secret plan fails.”

Abure emphasized the importance of being alert and ready since there were rumors that the government officials were already planning a re-run.

“We are confident that we won that election based on the statistics we have, and given the outcome, we are not expecting anything less than the declaration of Peter Obi as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

But, if that does not happen, and the administration is perceived to be contemplating a repeat, it would not be out of place for us to prepare for a rerun election.

“Having said that, I must state unequivocally that we have presented all of our evidence to the court and are very hopeful that the tribunal will rule in our favour.”

“We are very optimistic that if the case proceeds to the higher court, the Supreme Court, in this case, it will also rule in our favour.” We are maintaining our optimism and confidence.

“In nine months, we were able to change the political narratives of this country, and we must build on those successes in order to have a more formidable party that we can strategically position for Nigeria’s downtrodden people.”

In his contribution to the conversation, Ambassador Oseloka Obaze, Director of the ObiDatti Presidential Campaign, urged Obi-Datti members in the diaspora to see the effort to reclaim the party’s mandate as a common obligation.
