This marks the second time the Fubara-loyal House of Assembly will be screening commissioner-nominees since establishing itself as a parallel legislative body. Previously, the Assembly, led by factional Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, screened and confirmed Dagogo Iboroma (SAN) as the State Executive Council member, subsequently appointing him as the new attorney-general and commissioner for justice.

The nomination and screening come amid ongoing political tensions between Governor Fubara and former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Recently, the former commissioner for justice, Prof. Zaccaeus Adangor (SAN), who is aligned with Wike, resigned from Fubara’s cabinet, further intensifying the political discord.

The outcome of today’s screening will be pivotal in shaping the composition of Governor Fubara’s administration and addressing the current political climate in Rivers State.
