Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has withdrawn his legal case against the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The decision was announced during a hearing at the State High Court in Isiokpo, situated in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

This development follows a crucial meeting held at Aso Villa, where Governor Fubara engaged in discussions with President Bola Tinubu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other key stakeholders from Rivers State.
The primary objective of the meeting was to find a resolution to the ongoing political crisis within the state.
The pivotal moment came when the Governor, along with Wike and other participants, signed an agreement aimed at ending the political feud.
Governor Fubara Adheres To Decision Reached To End Ongoing Crisis
A key provision of the agreement was Governor Fubara’s commitment to withdraw all legal actions against Amaewhule’s faction.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ferdinand Orbih, representing the state Governor informed the court during Wednesday’s hearing that he had received instructions from his client to withdraw the case, citing the agreement reached by the conflicting parties.
However, the defense counsel, D. O. Okoro, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, stated that he lacked instructions from his clients to withdraw the matter.
This prompted Justice Ben Whyte, the presiding judge, to direct the defense counsel to confer with his clients regarding the recent development.
Justice Whyte subsequently adjourned the case to January 31, 2024, for a report on the progress of the settlement.

Governor Fubara had initially approached the court seeking an order to prevent the Amaewhule-led faction from impeaching him. In a twist earlier in the day, the Amaewhule-led Assembly withdrew the impeachment notice served on Governor Fubara.
The withdrawal of the legal case marks a significant step toward political reconciliation in Rivers State, with the court now awaiting further updates on the resolution reached through the high-level agreement.
