The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a strategic move has reached out to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), inviting him to join the party’s ranks.

The invitation was extended by Tony Okocha, the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in the state, who emphasized the potential benefits of Wike’s membership to the ruling party.

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Okocha clarified that the recent defection of 27 state lawmakers to the APC might not necessarily be linked to a plan for Wike’s entrance into the party.

Despite speculations surrounding Wike’s potential move, Okocha stated, “I don’t think so,” highlighting Wike’s autonomy in deciding his political course and affiliations.

Okocha went on to commend Wike for his instrumental role in the party’s success during the 2023 elections in Rivers State.

He acknowledged Wike as a prominent political figure whose influence significantly contributed to the party’s victory.

“Wike is a politician whose name shakes and echoes in society, so nobody can think or say for him if he will defect to or not. In 2023, he immensely aided the victory of APC in the state,” Okocha remarked.
