Juliana Olayode, the renowned Nigerian actress known for her memorable portrayal of Toyo Baby in the popular sitcom series “Jenifa’s Diary,” has opened up about her courageous journey battling two challenging health conditions, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Psoriasis.
PCOS is a complex hormonal disorder that can lead to irregular and often very long menstrual periods, among other symptoms. On the other hand, Psoriasis is a skin ailment characterized by the development of itchy, scaly patches, frequently affecting areas such as the knees, elbows, trunk, and scalp.
In a heartfelt revelation shared on her YouTube channel, Juliana Olayode shared her experiences in dealing with these health challenges, shedding light on the physical and emotional struggles she faced.
“I had polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and I had Psoriasis,” she disclosed. “I was bleeding every day for four months, and my period did not stop. The way it started was that my period did not come for over a year.”
Olayode went on to describe the severity of her condition, mentioning that she had to use an alarming amount of sanitary towels daily, with one particularly distressing incident where she awoke to find her bed soaked with blood, despite recently changing her sanitary pad.
Her concern about her health led her to seek medical attention. She recounted the fear she felt at the prospect of what the doctors might diagnose. Her sister’s advice led them to a gynecologist, where a series of tests were conducted to determine the root cause of her health issues.
“I was hoping it was not going to be cancer,” Olayode admitted, reflecting the anxiety she faced during this period. Thankfully, the tests revealed that she was dealing with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a condition that affects many women worldwide, and it can present various challenges, including hormonal imbalances and fertility issues. Juliana Olayode’s decision to share her personal battle with PCOS and Psoriasis not only raises awareness about these conditions but also serves as an inspiration to others who may be facing similar health struggles.
