INEC has Declared Winner of Kogi Off-Cycle Governorship Election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Usman Ododo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner of the Kogi state Off-Cycle governorship election held on Saturday.

Professor Johnson Urama, the state Returning Officer for the election and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State, announced the results on Sunday evening at INEC’s state collation centre in Lokoja, the state capital.

Usman Ododo declared winner with over 440,000 Votes. 

Usman Ododo secured a substantial lead with 446,237 votes out of the total 791,890 votes cast during the election. Professor Urama emphasized that the 1,647 cancelled votes did not impact the margin of lead, making the election valid for declaration.

“Having polled the required number of votes and by the power vested in me as the Chief Returning Officer of the Kogi state Off-Cycle Governorship election held on the 11th November 2023, I, Professor Johnson Uramahi, hereby declare Usman Ododo of the All Progressive Congress, APC, as the winner, and he is hereby returned as elected,” stated Professor Urama.

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Murtala Ajaka, secured the second position with 259,052 votes, while Dino Melaye of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) came in third with 46,362 votes.

The total number of registered voters for the election was 1,932,474, with 794,500 accredited voters. The valid votes cast amounted to 782,289, while rejected votes stood at 9,601.

This declaration solidifies Usman Ododo’s mandate as the governor-elect of Kogi state, marking a significant milestone in the state’s political landscape. The APC’s victory reflects the will of the electorate as demonstrated through a credible and transparent electoral process.
