President Tinubu Bold Move: A Leap Toward Enhanced Judicial Salaries
President Bola Tinubu has submitted a bill to the House of Representatives aimed at revising and augmenting the salaries of judicial officers. This development was revealed by Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, through a letter from Tinubu read during a plenary session.
In a pivotal move, President Bola Tinubu has proposed an increase in the salaries of judicial workers, forwarding a bill to the House of Representatives to amend their remuneration.

The announcement came via a letter from Tinubu to the Green Chamber, read out by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary on March 19.
The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, Allowances, and Fringe Benefits of Judicial Office Holders in Nigeria and for Related Matters,” seeks swift consideration and passage by the House of Representatives. Dated March 19, the letter from the president highlighted the bill’s objective: to adjust the salaries, allowances, and benefits for Judicial Officers to address longstanding remuneration stagnation and align with current socio-economic conditions.
Reflecting on the 2024 judiciary budget, it is noteworthy that President Tinubu allocated N342 billion to the judiciary, marking the highest allocation in Nigeria’s history. This allocation was part of the broader N1.2 trillion FCT 2024 budget passed by the House, which also approved a N500 billion borrowing plan.
During his presidential campaign, Tinubu committed to reforming and increasing the judiciary’s salaries, a pledge he is now taking steps to fulfil.

Additionally, amidst recent controversies including the killing of about 17 soldiers in Delta state, President Tinubu has engaged in iftar with service chiefs, members of the executive council, and heads of government agencies and parastatals, further showcasing his active engagement in various aspects of governance.
