Osun Judiciary Workers Call Off Strike After Three Months.
Osogbo, Nigeria: The national leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has directed its Osun State chapter to suspend their three-month-long strike action.
The strike began in November 2023 following the suspension of the state Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo, by Governor Ademola Adeleke. The suspension was based on allegations of corruption, among other issues, and was recommended by the House of Assembly.
However, the suspension was widely criticized, with stakeholders like the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) arguing that only the National Judicial Council (NJC) has the authority to suspend or remove a judge. The NJC subsequently reinstated Justice Adepele-Ojo in December 2023, but the JUSUN strike continued.

According to a letter dated March 4, 2024, and signed by the Acting General Secretary, M. J. Akwashiki, the decision to suspend the strike was reached by the national JUSUN leadership. The letter instructed members of the Osun State branch to officially end the industrial action.
This development paves the way for the resumption of normal activities within the Osun State judiciary system. The specific reasons behind JUSUN’s decision to suspend the strike and the status of the allegations against Justice Adepele-Ojo remain unclear at this time.
