What are the Nigerian newspapers’ headlines for today?

 

 

1) The federal government has declared Monday as public holiday. This comes on the heels of the celebration of workers day. The announcement was made by Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior on behalf of the Federal government.

2) Taofeek Adeagbo, age 18, has been paraded by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly murdering his father. Rashidat, the suspect’s mother, was also arrested for covering up the crime. The incident occurred in Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area, according to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, who paraded the suspects along with 23 others in Ibadan on Friday.

3) The Labour Party leadership criticised President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday for claiming that opposition parties lost the February 25 presidential election due to overconfidence. In a statement issued yesterday, the acting National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, claimed that the president was aware that the LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won the election.

4) The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has urged opposition political parties to join forces with the incoming All Progressives Congress government to propel Nigeria to the next level of development. Lawan stated that, with the conclusion of the general elections, the time had come for inclusive governance.

5) President Muhammadu Buhari endorsed Usman Odedo, the All Progressives Congress candidate for governor of Kogi State, on Friday in Abuja, seven months prior to the election. This was due to the fact that Ododo stated he was committed to building on Yahaya Bello’s developmental achievements, which, according to him, were the result of inclusive governance.

6) Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, hosted two governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Defence House in Abuja on Friday. Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, met with the incoming president.

7) The Gubernatorial Transition Committee (GTC) of Kano State’s incoming governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, alleges that the outgoing administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is undermining and sabotaging the transition process. However, the state government denied the allegation, claiming the GTC refused to submit the names of its three nominees to the government’s transition committee.

8) The Federal Government stated on Friday that it has not delayed the elimination of fuel subsidies. Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning Zainab Ahmed announced on Thursday that the government had suspended the planned removal of petroleum product subsidies by the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s term. Yesterday, she stated that the removal was proceeding as planned.

9) Senators-elect from the North Central geopolitical zone gathered in Abuja on Friday night and endorsed Sani Musa for the position of Deputy Senate President in the tenth National Assembly. Aliyu Wadada, the senator-elect for the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, stated that they would not accept any position other than that of Vice President of the Senate.

10) A member of a vigilante group rescued a newborn abandoned in a garbage dump in front of Mile 3 Motor Park in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday morning. It was determined that the cry of the female child, who was wrapped in clothing and left out in the cold around 3 a.m., drew the attention of the vigilante who was on a routine patrol.
